This is in every sense, the first Wii game we saw. Remember guys? Well I'm sure alot of the hype has died down, and those critics (besides me) mostly don't know what they're talking about. So let me tell you my story with Red Steel.
Core Concept: Your name is Scott. You are engaged to the smexy Miyu, and the day you go to meet her father (who is a crime boss) a bunch of his enemies show up and try to kill him. They end up taking Miyu and it's your job to plow your way back to her with a basic array of guns and your trusty katana skills.
Graphics: It could definitely use some work. Alot of it is jagged and story mode has to load alot. If Ubisoft waited to get more of a handle of the Wii's engine they could've done more with it. But it's still solid and explosions are a sight to behold.
Sound: The voice overs are solid. The music however is different. This is J-Pop at it's highest regard. It can be very, VERY annoying. But who's listening to the music when you're pumping toweled Yakuza full of shotgun lead? Not me!
Control: Everyone complains about this. I think anyone who does is being Female Dogy. It took myself and my brother 30 minutes to break into the basics of this game on multiplayer, and although some things can use work this is the best FPS on the Wii. You can adjust the sensitivity but at default it follows your hand without having to do any overblown movements. The sword fights are very fluid as well. Nothing says awesome like parrying your enemy's attack and then giving him a 5 hit combo with your quick wrist flicking.
Longevity: If you don't have friends who play games with you, Red Steel's single player mode can't hold you over forever. But you can replay levels and it leaves at least some reason to keep it for some months if you are alone. If you're lucky enough to have 4 Wiimote/Nunchucks then this game will hold you over until some other highly fluid, multiplayer FPS comes onto the Wii.
Verdict: 7.5/10
It has some glitches and could use some work, but for the time being this game is impressive.
