I don't use anything fancy, other than running/walking and attacks, I just do rolling dodges to get behind the enemy and have a safe chance to strike, and when I am in the air, I'll air dodge sometimes, and I have very good timing, I can almost always avoid Snorlax when I air dodge up at the right moment, and I can also avoid the freezing attack from Articuno, and the blast from an electrode, depending on what character I am using.
Link air dodges for a good amount of time, Peach and Zelda don't, so they would be damaged by the explosion after their air dodge ends.
And for Jigglypuff, if sent flying and it's 5 puffs aren't enough to get high enough to climb back on, but you are close, then you can air dodge up to it and it can save a life, and of course using pound helps to get closer as well, not vertically, but horizontally.

I wavedash, triangle jump, short-hop air attack alot. But my counter (Marth) is still my most effective move.

Me?
I propose an 8; due to the fact I'm able to beat Fire Fox in a matter of the area of time and survival rates. (he presumes a 7).
I don't 'do' wavedashing.... spoils the fun of regular combat.
I do edge dashing easily.
If I think about it, I can also do L-canceling.

No wonder... I am good! there's only two people that beat me at my best, that is The Darkness and his friend! (name disclosed) They Are TOOOO DAMMMMM GOOOD! I kicked your ass too You know him to!? That explains why both of you joined at about the same time =P Me? I propose an 8; due to the fact I'm able to beat Fire Fox in a matter of the area of time and survival rates. (he presumes a 7). On SSB Ru, you seem to forget that a lot. Wtf? That IS regular combat, If you're going to fight make it worth while, omg your edge guarding must suck... Wavedashing is one of the fastest way to get on the edge. Edge Dashing is a good thing to get down, I use it on I.Frog as much as possible, because she hits me off the stage so much... And stands near the edge... L-canceling is the most easiest out of all of them... Even Ice Frog can do that for crying out loud. XD

Regular is what is normally done...
I don't know ANYONE in person that wavedashes or even L-Cancels...heck, I discovers L-Canceling by accident...
Edge gaurding...I know how to do it, but I'm not obsesed on taking my Foe down ASAP...I like toying with them and then see them fly by, even If I have to lose a few lives, idc, as long as it in not one sided...I hope there is a profile for when someone gets into Wifi matches in SSBB...I'd inmediately put: "no wavedashers, ruins the fun in a good match"
I know how to shine a foe, but I never use it, heck, if I've got a spike on a character, I never use it...unless if it is the first battle that I've had with that person in a long time...
I'm a 9 here with my friends, but since NONE of use use cheap movement techniques, I'd be a 5-6 with everyone who does...
plus, games are meant to be enjoyed, not mashing buttons to make one movement...

It's not about mashing, It's about bringing out the best in the game. Eventually your going to get to a point where you think you've reached your limit. (You're probably at it now) But you can go even further with the techniques, and if you taught your friend's them you'd see the real challenge in SSBM.

Rivalry is also a way to bring out the best in smash. Rivalry is also a good way to bring out weapons. And I guess I'm pretty good at Smash, but I'll let you guys do the judging when we play.
