Nintendo’s E3 keynote

Reggie takes the stage and talks about how happy he is with Nintendo’s success. Talking about how Wii and DS are becoming mainstream entertainment like TV, movies, and music. Video game business up almost 50% over 2006 in US. UK is 42%, Japan is up 114%. Reggie says this is due to the expanded market Nintendo has built. Reggie says he has experienced expanded audience in his own family. Reggie says so far this year 69% of game industry growth comes from Nintendo profits. Three factors that drive growth.
Portable play - Handheld to console support used to be 30% handheld, 70% console. It is now at a 50-50 share. DS is helping to lead industry growth. DS market share is up to 25% of all hardware sales in US.
Expansion to older players - Older players were 28% of the market in 2005, and are now 32% in 2007. 21% of sales are from the 18-24 age whereas it was 8% in 2005
Female players - 20% female 80% male sales in the industry in 2007, Nintendo is 33% female 67% male in 2007.
140 more titles on the way for DS, 100 games for Wii all this year. 14 of the top 20 best sellers for Wii hae benn from third party publishers. Third party sales represent more than half of all unit volume.
The Wii zapper is officially announced and shown. Wiimote on front, nunchuck in back. Held like a tommy gun. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will be on the show floor, playable with the zapper. Sega is supporting the zapper with Ghost Squad as well. Medal of Honor Wii is built to take advantage as well. 32 multiplayer for Medal of Honor confirmed. Nintendo is working on a Wii zapper product. Zapper will be packaged this year with new piece of software. Software package sold for 19.99
Dragon Quest Swords out early next year Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is 4 player.
Smash Bros. Brawl is dated for December 3rd, 2006.
Phantom Hourglass on stage demo. Grappling hook is being shown. Used to walk tightrops among other things.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption demo being shown. Lock on free aiming, lock on with Z and you still have the ability to aim anywhere on screen. Strafe around enemy, aim anywhere, pivot around them.
5.5 million DS owners have played online, representing 230 million gameplay sessions. 5.6 million downloads on Virtual Console. 112 titles to choose from. WiiWare reconfirmed for next year.
New Wii channel - Check Mii Out: create Miis and have people vote on them. Download Miis that you find and like. Contests and promotions on the way for this channel.
Madden 08 and Fifa 08 online confirmed again. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker online as well. Guitar Hero III online confirmed.
Mario Kart Wii announced to have online, first quarter next year. Online multiplayer battle mode. Looks to feature cars from the latest DS version. Custom Wii steering wheel makes its debut with launch of game, not necessary to play the game. Wii Wii packaged with Mario Kart Wii.
Iwata takes the stage. He loves the DS cookbook software. He prepares dinner for his family by using it. He is discussing that Nintendo is working hard to make sure that all games are open to everyone.
Super Mario Galaxy footage being shown. Bunch of new footage. A family is getting to play all these new games. Brain Age 2 is being shown as well. Brain Age 2 on August 20th.
New bumblebee like suit showng for Super Mario Galaxy. Game dated for November 12th.
Vision Training DS is coming to the US - Renamed Flash Focus. My Word Coach being shown once again. My Life Coach shown again.
Wii Fit is announced, trailer being shown. Comes with a floor peripheral that you stand on. Follow exercises on screen. Hula Hoop exercise is shown as well as traditional exercises. Soccer headbutt game shown as well. Dance mini game with floor mat as well, close to dance dance revolution. Keeps track of Mii fitness scores. More traditional minigames shown using floor pad.
Miyamoto takes the floor to show off Wii Fit. 3 people in exercise outfits take the floor as well. Each person on stage will show game demos. Exercise pad and wiimote are both used for gameplay. On screen calibration for Wiimote shows if you are peforming moves accurately. Now dance game is being shown off. Follow footstep pictures in the middle of the screen. Step aerobics basically. Use other Miis on screen to keep rhythm. Last person shows off sideways twist. Once again Wiimote tracks movement and balance. Avalable on show floor to play. Wii Fit has 4 genres, aerobics, conditioning, poses, and mini games. 40 activities.
