......of an extremely crappy game.
ESPN"s "Extreme Games" was a little known extreme sports racer from early in the Playstation's lifecycle. Not many people have heard of it, because frankly, not many people bought it. Those who did buy it promptly traded it in, because, well, it just isn't that good...
As usual, i'll start this review off with a nice little preface, a look into the backround os the story, or at least i would if there were one. This being a sports game, there is no real story to tell, just a bunch of idiots racing on skateboards and such...
The people in this game are supposedly real atheletes, but for the life of me, I just can't seem to remember if I've ever heard of them, I don't think many others have. but now enough about how incredibly obscure these guys and girl are. yes, I said girl. Singular.
The system of stats is actually ver well done. In an interesting little inovation not seen in many other games, each person is not confined to one peice of equipment, but has stats applying to all the different equipment in the game.
For example, one guy could be really good a skateboards, okay at bike and skates, and completely suck at luge. You can still put him on luge if you want to. (though I don't highly reccommend it.) Also, after every race, you earn money, which you can use to buy new equipment with better handling, ect... all this would be great, the sheer amount of characters included, if only the game itself was better.
you can race across a grand total of 5 tracks. 5 f**kING TRACKS!!!!
not only are the tracks few, they are badly animated and repetitive. In San Francisco for example, you pass the same building every 2 seconds. it sucks. the racing isn't that interesting either, even the advent of punching couldn't save it. Youn hold a button to go, and a button to jump. That's it. the computer is also absurdly powerful, their punches knock you right down, but yours do pretty much nothing. more like extremely sucky. The soundtrack is generic rock. The characters are badly animated sprite people, and the tracks are few and lazily done, kind of like this review.
