Core Concept: Give Nintendo a game that conducts as much raw, visceral driving as the BurnOut series.
Graphics: Not one of the games that doesn't use the Wii's hardware properly. The car models could be better, but this game does it where it counts, environments. Stages with sleet, rain, or snow rival the original Xbox visuals in it's late stages.
Controls: The game really flourishes here. Not like other launch titles, where it's just motion controls all over. The Wiimote is held sideways. You turn it like the wheel of the car when you drive, and in the air you can tilt it toward you for more hangtime or away for less. You can also straighten yourself out for a clean landing which rewards you a boost. The control pad is used to turbo, 1 is brake/reverse, and 2 is the gas. It all flows together well enough to be user friendly, but takes time to master.
Sound: The soundtrack is alot of rock, which is fine when you're racing. But you can use an SD Card and have custom soundtracks. Which is better.
Longevity: Unfortunately this is where Excite Truck faults. The single player modes will keep you busy for a while, with the Excite Race, Super Excite Race, and Challenge Mode. Plus for Multiplayer it only supports two players. I can't see any reason to keep it after you get all the cars unlocked and beat the single player modes.
Verdict: 8.5/10
Excite Truck is really a top Wii game out of the launch window. If it had anymore content or multiplayer modes it would be that much sweeter. I can only hope Monster Games gives us a sequel with something like online multiplayer.
