Gears of War thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing story of humankind's epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet.
In this third-person tactical shooter, gamers live and breathe the role of Marcus Fenix, a disgraced former war hero who seeks personal redemption as he leads his fire team against an onslaught of merciless warrior fiends. A third-person tactical shooter from Epic, running on the Unreal Engine 3. Gears of War thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing story of humankind’s epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet.
ING review:Unlike other shooters, Gears of War is all about teamwork in a big way. All game modes, levels and scenarios are designed specifically to encourage co-operative play, whether it be with A.I. partners or human players (with A.I. teammates designed with specific strengths, weaknesses and personalities.) On top of that, voice recognition will be available for players, and obviously voice chat to discuss strategy with your friends.
In addition to voice chat, gamers will be able to experience individualized matchmaking, view player statistics, earn player achievements, customize their games, and build and personalize their gamer profiles over Xbox Live.

The Epic Games third-person shooter, anticipated far and wide, will be available in a shiny metal limited edition for buyers who preorder. No word yet as to whether the extra content will require extra cash, but my bet is on "yes".
The limited edition, set to emerge on November 17th 12th (note: correction), will score you the following goodies:
• A highly collectible embossed metal box
• Destroyed Beauty, the Gears of War hardbound art book
• Bonus special features DVD, including:
• An inside look at the making of Gears of War
• The "Art of Gears of War" trailer
• Gears of War: The Race to E3

Speaking to the Gearheads of War Blog, which his brother actually works for, Cliff Bleszinski (aka CliffyB, the Gears of War Icon) has said that some retail stores might actual start selling the game before November 12, which is the official release date.
Gearheads: Why release it on a Sunday?
Cliff: The Sunday date is the date Microsoft believes all of the major retailers will have the game in stock so that's the date they want to build excitement around. What we've been told is that hardcore game shops like EB & Gamestop will have their trucks lined up at Microsoft's warehouse as 12:01AM on November 7th (the date the game actually ships) and will get stock to their stores as quickly as they can - at their own additional expense no less! They'll be able to sell it the minute they get it so some of those stores will have the game well before the 12th. It could take a few days for the game to work through the distribution channels of the giants like Wal*Mart and Best Buy but they should all have it in stores by the 12th. Microsoft figures this is a game that will sell well to the mass market so they want to make sure that when people show up in the stores the game is there. So that's why the 12th is being called Emergence Day. Microsoft also told us they're going to be planning something cool to coincide with that date.
So it looks as though some stores might even have the game as early as November 7 - a full 5 days before the official release.
