The Japan release of these games actually isn't all that far off, though the NA release date is currently set for Spring 2011, so it will be March at the soonest for us... But that doesn't mean the upcoming games can't be discussed. ^_^ Battles will seem more lively with Pokémon sprites that constantly move during battle as opposed to in the past just staying completely still. I won't spoil too much for the Pokémon Trainers out there, so I leave further discussion of these games to the replies made in this thread. =D And now I say to you all now, welcome to a new generation... Discuss.

Balls:
Nintendo have today announced the official names for the starter Pokémon in Black & White. These three Pokémon are the ones with which you will be starting your game and follow the same Grass/Fire/Water cycle as before. The names are as follows.
First, the Grass-type starter Tsutarja shall henceforth be known as Snivy which is a portmanteau of the words "Snake" & "Ivy". The Fire-type Pig Pokémon, Pokabu, is to be known in English language countries as Tepig which is a play on the word "Tepid" bringing "Pig" into the fold. Finally the Water-type sea otter, Mijumaru, is to be called Oshawott, the full meaning of which we are trying to determine but it does include a derivation of otter.
The region of Isshu has also been named as the Unova Region. The entire site has been updated to reflect this announcement or click the names to go to their Pokédex entries to see their stats as well as their evolutions
In addition to this, the abilities and classifications for Reshiram & Zekrom have been revealed. Reshiram is the Vast White Pokémon with Turboblaze while Zekrom is the Deep Black Pokémon and has the ability Teravolt

Freakin love "Snivy". Serebii says it's based of "Snake" and "Ivy", but I feel like that thing's more like "Snide" and "Ivy", seeing how the "Sni-" in Snide totally rolls with "Snivy".
Tepig is ok, if you know what "Tepid" means (I had to use a dictionary for that >_>). Either way, if feels like a soulless name to give a smiling pig. That, and its evolutions SUCKS, it should have tried as hard as possible to pwn as a first stage Pokémon...
Oshawott... idk what to say about it... I have no idea WHAT it could be based off... I guess time will tell...
Oh yeah, fuck Japan for getting the games so much earilier than us. Not only do they not recognize the awesome that is the Metroid Prime trilogy, but they get pokemon games way before us? I guess they didn't learn all those years ago... don't worry, when I rule the world, they'll know how to give me my pokemon games BEFORE they get them...
AND YOU BETTER NOT FREAKIN DELETE THIS POST, SSBMASTER

Beyond the big city thing. Anything that changes the forumla? ... to be frank, no. At least, from what JN and I were discussing a few days ago, there's no new mechanic as big as Special Defense, Abilities or the Physical/Special split. The closest thing was the Dream World, with give many pokemon another ability, but that's just a gimmicky way of making trainers get another ability for their pokemon, elongating the training aspect of the game (the day I get a Jarlorda with its respective Dream World Ability AND a powerful Hidden Power Fire type, I shall become complete).

You were the only one denying that triple battles were a significant addition T_T OMG. Whatever. And we only discussed the battle mechanics... In the overworld, there's also the season changes that alter paths like in Oracle of Seasons, better 3-D camera, and simultaneous characters speak using text balloons. TMs are now unbreakable and can be used indefinitely, like HMs have been in past games. Also in battles, cosmetically, Pokémon received constant animations (they don't move only when being sent into battle, but for the whole duration of it). I suppose there's more useful info here, but be warned that it may contain spoilers (which I'm avoiding). Or you may check this periodically, where they'll likely be showing the new features.

Thank you Johans, your much more informative than Shadrio. Also, I'm on the birthday list twice. Hehe.

You were the only one denying that triple battles were a significant addition You cannot compare Triple Battles to Special Defense or Abilities. Abilities are in every battle. Triple Battle is only in Triple Battles. I'm talking about the backbones of Pokémon battling. The BIG new mechanics, which I cannot find. But you're right, I wasn't really looking at the rest, since they either just don't call my attention or I didn't know about them. The unbreakable TMs is cool, though. How could I forget that? But yeah, seasons, 3D camera, speech bubbles and sprite Movement during battles, I don't care. The only cosmetic change I would have liked would have been actual 3D battles. They don't even have flinch animations or unleashing attacks animations, not even fainting animations. Just idle. Of course, I'm no moron. I'm not denying their existence, I'm just saying why I forgot them >_>' JN cares about the more non-battle things of the game than me. Now that I remember about non-battle things... wasn't there a new type of "Contest"-like thing? Some dancing routine, or something...

There's another generation? lol... I think I'm more fascinated by the duration this is gonna go than by the actual games themselves. Well, no, but it's close.
