E3 2011: Nintendo Press Conference

So, let's just roll this up into one post. Biggest/awesomest news first, yeah?

• Named Wii U.
  
• Looks Similar to the Wii, but smoother and rounder.
  
• Controller is odd. Looks like a small iPad; has 6.2in Screen, and acts a home-teathered portable; Stream game from WiiU to Controller, use in conjuction with WiiU, and various other things.
  
  
• Graphics are seemingly 360/PS3 level.
  
• Games appearing will be Batman Arkham City (yeah, the new one), Assassin's Creed, Darksiders II, Metro Last Light, Others.
  
• Smash Brothers. That is All.
  

Technical bits:

• High definition display, up to 1080p resolution via HDMI output
  
• 6.2" touchscreen on New Controller, running in non-HD resolution
  
• Internal flash-based media storage, upgradeable via USB and SD cards
  
• Games ship on proprietary iDensity discs of unspecified, but "large capacity"
  
• Games will also be available as downloadable content
  
• Console compatible with Wii games and devices
  
• Release date between April 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012; or after the end of Nintendo's fiscal year
  
  
  3DS:
  
  • Virtual Console for Gameboy games online today/now
    
  • New Mario Kart: Has Customizable karts (Chassis, wheels, glider); Glider appears when jumping from ramps. Main karts are MK DS Style.
    
  • New Mario: New Super Mario Bros. In Mario 64 Style, with some Galaxy Elements; Adds Tanooki Suit. Comes out by end of year.
    
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising - Awesome. Has Voice acting for everyone (even Pit); Multiplayer, 3on3 Battles to kill the other teams Angel.
    
  • Smash Brothers. That is all.
    
  • Pokedex 3DS: Similar to in-game pokedex; Allows you to place Pokemon in pictures of stuff (Groudon in Grand Canyon). Starts with 16 pokemon, can be expanded by meeting other people (not sure on this one, really); is free. Available with new 3DS Update on eShop.
    
  • Zelda: Links Awakening available on eShop today; Four swords in September, and is free.

3DS showing really made me want to buy a 3DS. I was wondering if I should buy PSV after I saw it yesterday, but with the 5 games I've got to buy for the 3DS, there's no way I'll have money left over and I'm not sad because of that. Luigi's Mansion 2 and Super Mario 3DS FTW.

I'm very skeptical over Smash Bros for 3DS and WiiU. One part of me says that the 3DS version would be a remake of the first Smash bros, while the WiiU will be a totally new Smash Bros. I'm really praying that the new Smash bros for the WiiU will allow for user created content, as even though it wasn't intended, that's what made Brawl truely superior over Melee and 64.

As for the actual console WiiU, I felt like they dragged on way too much and said way too little. A controller, no matter how awesome the depict it as, does not make a console. It's software that ultimately decides a victor, and that's what I really wanted them to show. I was expecting at least Pikmin 3 and F-Zero, and maybe Monster Hunter and a bunch of other third party games. At least we know we're getting "hardcore" titles like Batman, Tekken and Assassin's Creed (I'm interested in the latter, I've always wanted to play Assassin's Creed games).

Anyway, there are still more days left to E3. Can't wait for Nintendo to announce more games that I care about for the WiiU. No, seriously. I mean it.

From just checking Kotaku, it seems the Smash games arn't actaully...existant yet.
And it seems that some of the games 'might' not come.

Anyway, I'm sure they won't be repurposed copies of the original. While it is possible, I don't think so.

Also, some good news! And maybe some bad news...>_>

Apparantly, it's reported that if Skyward Sword and Starfox 3DS arn't fantastic (I'm assuming if they don't sell well), Nintendo will can the series. Seems extremely unlikly, but hey, you never know.

Good news is, theres a new Mario Party!...OK, so thats still kinda bad. Actually, it's about Pikmin. On WiiU. Apparantly it was supposed to be released for Pikmin's tenth anniversary, which would put it somewhere around the end of this year, but Miyamoto moved it to WiiU.


...seems after show news it becoming slightly depressing >_>
